East Launceston Rebuild

The Project:

East Launceston rebuild was previously home to a dated 1920’s cottage, that was purchased by the new owners in 2023. The family home to take its place was designed by Honed Architecture, with Symmetrie being engaged for full scope interior design services. The rebuild was completed in 2025.

The clients were inspired by classic Hamptons and contemporary coastal design styles, while the exterior of the home was designed with traditional cottage architectural features to blend with the surrounding streetscape.

The foundational palette began with neutral materials including fresh white walls, light oak flooring, white shaker joinery and a calming Calcutta Oro stone. Brass fixtures and fittings along with Bodega Freeform stone walling that was used both internally as well as externally, brought warmth to the palette. A prerequisite the client set for us was to curate materials that required little to no maintenance and were going to endure the everyday wear and tear of busy teenage children and indoor animals.

Colour, texture and pattern were used to add personality and create individuality between the rooms. Textured wall panelling was applied to the laundry, bedhead and ensuite walls and also used within the hallway leading to the main living area, to conceal to the powder room and storage room entrance doors. Wallpaper adorned the walls of the guest powder room as well as the master ensuite and walk in robe.

Refined and functional spatial and joinery design was key within this home. A detailed brief was taken during our initial meetings to ensure every inch of joinery was tailored to suit the needs of the user.

Symmetrie worked closely with the clients and builders throughout both the planning and building stages to deliver a unique, peaceful and functional home for the family to entertain their loved ones and create beautiful new memories.
